What to do
Walk on sandy beaches, explore pebbly coves, ferry to Tremiti Islands, drive along the Costa dei Trabocchi, climb the Apennines, or simply sit still with a good book, a buon vino, or stroll about town watching the show of locals and sites. Restless? There's tennis, pescaturismo, or all-day excursions on a real fishing boat, windsurfing, ceramics & pottery courses, wine tastings, guided museum tours, and a nearby water park for the kids.
What to eat
Brodetto di pesce, the local dish per eccellenza; home-made pasta with a variety of wholesome sauces with tomato and/or legumes such as beans, chick peas; ventricina, a prosciutto-style deli meat with plenty of paprika; biscuits from our favorite baker; pasta & tomato sauces available at the villa; gelato from two or three ice cream parlors we'd be happy to suggest; and, of course, dressed up with our choice of zero km olive oils from our own backyard!
What to drink
Vino, the wines of Abruzzo: Montepulciano (ruby red), Cerasuolo (red), Trebbiano (white), Pecorino (white), traditional or our range of bio-organic from friends we love and trust, the same wines you can buy direct from us or order from your own homes.
Best for: Villa M is best for the lone traveler, a couple, or a family of max five members who enjoy sandy beaches, good traditional food and wine, charming old towns in a more or less relaxed setting. Vasto Marina is not South Beach, or Ibiza, nor even other Italian hotspots packed with foreigners. August is crowded, but only crazy if you're driving; otherwise, it's lively with plenty of free concerts, exhibitions, etc.
Best time to visit: Easter to mid-July, after which it gets crowded with mostly Italian tourists, a sight, however, you may not want to miss if you enjoy people-watching. September is also pleasant, with celebrations of San Michele, the patron saint of Vasto on 29th, including fireworks, procession, a marquee and marching bands that to some are very yesteryear, hence charming.
Best beaches: Vasto Marina, 200 metres from Villa M, features wide sandy beach with safe shallow waters, great for kids and their parents. Guests can choose to rent an ombrellone or parasol with deck chairs on the beach, or stretch their towels on one or two spots that are still free. Just north of the villa, there are tiny pebbly coves along what is known as la Costa dei Trabocchi; Punta Penna and Punta Aderci, wild sandy beaches, nature park and reserve, esp popular with hikers, bikers.
Best things to see or do: attend concert at Teatro Rossetti; visit Palazzo D'Avalos, museum and related archeo museums and tours in Vasto, nearby towns; dine at trabocco, traditional fishing huts that double as ristos; wine and olive oil tastings; visit Commonwealth War Memorial in Torino di Sangro and Canadian War Museum in Ortona; visit Abruzzo National Parks; visit Tremiti Islands, and borgo vecchio of Termoli.
Best local food: of the following, some we sell direct, or shall be more than happy to suggest when and where to go, but not to be missed: brodetto di pesce, the traditional seafood dish; ventricina, a prosciutto-like seasoned meat that is peppered with hot or mild paprika; home-made pasta, various types, with your favorite sauces; gelato, ice cream; traditional biscuits and cakes. We also carry a variety of olive oils, our own and friends', including Bio.
Best local wines: here, too, you can shop directly at Villa M, with our choice of Montepulciano, Trebbiano, Cerasuolo, Pecorino, Coccociola, and other varieties including Bio.
Best buys: our choice of food & wine, of course, why we chose them in the first place. Please see Food & Wine. |

If flying, you can fly to Pescara Airport from London Stansted, Frankfurt Hahn, Oslo, Bruxelles, Paris, Milano, Turin, and other cities.
From Pescara, by BUS: you can take a local bus - one euro - that takes approx 30 minutes to Pescara Stazione Centrale bus stop - ask the driver, as the bus stops a block away across a large bus and car park. Trains you're interested in are heading south towards Vasto-San Salvo, direzione Bari or Lecce, but be reminded that it's only about 50 minutes away, so don't fall asleep. At the Vasto-San Salvo train station, there is a bus towards Vasto, but ask driver to let you off at the stop after Cigno Bianco or Bar Ferrari. It's a miserable little stop, and you have to cross the street to the east to get to Villa M which is hidden behind two large apartment buildings, one orangey and the other white. Walk between the two buildings, up the little paved street to the house. Better yet, let me know which train you're on, and I will arrange to pick you up at the train station.
From Rome, by BUS: you can take Di Fonzo, Di Carlo, Cerella bus lines from Tiburtina Bus Terminal to Vasto Bus Terminal. Let me know time of arrival, and I will pick you up.
By car: exit Vasto Sud, drive to SS16 Adriatica, drive towards Vasto for approx 6 km past Piazza Fiume, traffic light, Cigno Bianco in immediate succesion and after 300 meters, keeping right, you will see Opel Car Dealer with faded and torn yellow flags, orange and white buildings with a road in between. Drive up road to house.
